KootenayBike - prelaunch mode

Kootenay Bike KootenayBike™ | Your source for mountain biking and trail information for Nelson, Rossland and New Denver

Site Credits

KootenayBike is a side project of HancheroffSmith. Dedicated to showcasing the mountain bike riding around Nelson and the rest of the Kootenays, the site is also a bit of an experimental testing ground for html5 and css3 site building techniques. KootenayBike also serves a creative outlet while building the local mountain biking scene.

Development Details
Coded by hand using Coda and designed in Photoshop, KootenayBike is a custom wordpress theme designed by HancheroffSmith. It’s my initial attempt at a full html5 build, so I’m sure things are still a bit ragged under the hood. KootenayBike uses several css3 techniques including rgba colours, text-shadow and @font-face font rendering. It used to make use of some transform properties and quite a bit more @font-face but we had to scale it back to make life a little bit easier. The features area that is currently under development will make us of more css3 and will most likely suck in older browsers.. but this site isn’t about going backwards – it’s about going forwards. So if something doesn’t look right it’s probably time to update your browser.

Much Thanks
Thanks goes out to Tyler Kealey of The Vacuum for all the art direction input and for being the ear to talk through ideas and always having time to provide some feedback. The initial ideas of this site originated while biking last year with Tyler – so I’m glad to have Tyler collaborating with us on this project. Also, thanks also goes out to Johan Bakken of Styleboost, for the slick search box functionality employed through out the site – it is awesome and Johan’s site is great too check it out.. Finally, thanks to all the initial site sponsors for all the help you provide whether it’s keeping our bikes on the trails or by helping us get new bikes on the trails!
